Training Needs Analysis:
Global Admissions Counselor Training
Quantic School of Business and Technology
Quantic School of Business and Technology is an international program with students from more than 100 countries. Most Admissions Counselors (ACs) interviewing applicants were American, many with little exposure to other cultures and languages. This shaped how they rated applicants. Research shows ESL speakers are often underestimated, and unconscious bias plays a major role. Studies confirm that accents influence how adults perceive competence, intelligence, confidence, and even success.
I noticed this issue first-hand when evaluating my team's applications. To address it, I designed a training program for ACs focused on distinguishing between accents and actual proficiency.
The training blended adult learning theory with Quantic’s active learning methodology. Using a CEFR-level framework, real interview examples, and interactive case studies, the program helped ACs practice fairer, more accurate evaluations.
The result: within 6 months, correct application scoring increased by 30%, giving international applicants a more equitable chance at admission.
